Abstract
Zmijski otrov je izlučevina preoblikovanih žlijezda slinovnica. Sadrži dvadesetak tvari. Više od 90% suhog zmijskog otrova čine proteini. Neki od njih su toksični, a neki ne pokazuju toksična svojstva. Jedan od toksina je α-kobra toksin. α-Kobra toksin spada u α-neurotoksine s dugim lancem, a pronalazimo ga kod vrsta roda Naja. α-Kobra toksin antagonist je nikotinskog acetilkolinskog receptora (nAChR). Vezanjem na nAChR mišićnog i neuronskog tipa, blokira sposobnost receptora da veže acetilkolin. Na taj način inhibira protok iona kroz postsinaptičku membranu što dovodi do paralize i prestanka disanja. Kod ugriza otrovnica roda Naja najčešće se primjenjuju polivalentni protuotrovi.
Abstract (english)
Snake venom is an excretion of transformed salivary glands and contains about twenty substances. More than 90% of dry snake venom consist of proteins. Some of them are toxic and some do not show toxic properties. One of the toxins is α-cobra toxin. α-Cobra toxin belongs to α-neurotoxins with a long chain, and it is found in a species of the genus Naja. α-Cobra toxin is an antagonist of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR). By binding to muscle and neuronal type nAChR, it blocks the receptor's ability to bind acetylcholine. In this way it inhibits the flow of ions through the postsynaptic membrane, leading to paralysis and cessation of breathing. Polyvalent antivenoms are most often used in the case of bites by venomous snakes of the genus Naja.
