Abstract
Esencijalne masne kiseline su skupina masnih kiselina koje se moraju unositi putem hrane zbog nemogućnosti njihove sinteze u ljudskom organizmu. Primarno esencijalne su linolna (LA) i alfa linolenska kiselina (ALA) iz kojih se mogu sintetizirati druge masne kiseline koje se smatraju uvjetno esencijalnima, arahidonska (AA) , dokosaheksaenska (DHA) i eikosapentaenska kiselina (EPA). S obzirom na položaj dvostruke veze u strukturi ovih masnih kiselina, one se mogu podijeliti na omega-3 i omega-6 masne kiseline. Različit je utjecaj ovih dviju spojeva na ljudski organizam te se smatra kako omega-3 masne kiseline imaju protuupalno djelovanje i blagotvoran učinak na zdravlje kardiovaskularnog sustava, rast i razvoj mozga i sve unutarstanične procese. Omega-6 masne kiseline pak potiču upalne procese pa je važno kroz prehranu smanjiti unos ovih vrsta masti, odnosno uzimati preporučeni odnos omega-3 i omega-6 masnih kiselina.
Abstract (english)
Essential fatty acids are a group of fatty acids that must be included in our diet since humans lack enzymatic pathways for their synthesis. Primarily essential are linoleic (LA) and alpha linolenic acid (ALA) from which other fatty acids considered conditionally essential, arachidonic (AA), docosahexaenoic (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) can be synthesized. Given the position of the double bond in the structure of these fatty acids, they can be divided into omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. The effects of these two compounds on the human body are different and omega-3 fatty acids are thought to have anti-inflammatory effects and beneficial effects on cardiovascular health, brain growth and development and all intracellular processes. Omega-6 fatty acids, on the other hand, stimulate inflammatory processes, so it is important to reduce the intake of these types of fats through the diet, ie to take the recommended ratio of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.
