Abstract
Kurkumin je prirodni polifenol izoliran iz rizoma biljke Curcuma longa, člana porodice đumbirovki. Iako su mnogobrojni zdravstveni učinci povezani sa kurkuminom, glavni nedostatak uključuje njegovu nisku bioraspoloživost; slabu apsorpciju u tkivu, visoku stopu metabolizma te brzu sistemsku eliminaciju. Cilj ovog rada je bio napraviti sustavno pretraživanje literature, analizirati kakve vrste pripravaka kurkumina se koriste u provedenim randomiziranim kontroliranim studijama te koja su najčešća zdravstvena stanja za koja se navedeni pripravci koriste. Analiza je pokazala da prevladavaju studije koje su kao intervenciju koristile kurkumin u kombinaciji s piperinom te raznim oblicima nanoformulacija. Najčešće istraživana bolest je osteoartritis, a raspoloživi podaci ukazuju kako bi primjena kurkumina u liječenju ove bolesti mogla biti sigurna i učinkovita.
Abstract (english)
Curcumin is a natural polyphenol isolated from the rhizome of turmeric (Curcuma longa), a member of the ginger family. Although numerous medicinal claims are associated with curcumin, drawbacks include low bioavailability, poor tissue distribution, extensive metabolism and rapid systemic elimination. The aim of this thesis was to perform a systematic literature search and to analyze what types of curcumin preparations are used in the randomized controlled trials and what are the most common health conditions for which these preparations are used. The analysis has shown that studies which have used curcumin in combination with piperine or in various forms of nanoformulations are prevalent. The most commonly studied disease is osteoarthritis, and the available data suggest that use of curcumin in therapy could be safe and effective.
