Abstract
Mitohondriji su organeli eukariotskih stanica u kojima se staničnim disanjem oslobađa energija potrebna za rad i održavanje stanica na životu. Prema teoriji endosimbioze, mitohondriji su evoluirali od α-proteobakterije, dok se domaćinu pretpostavlja arhealno porijeklo. Unutar razvojne linije eukariota, osim uobičajenih aerobnih mitohondrija, nalazimo i druge funkcionalne tipove mitohondrija kao što su anaerobni mitohondriji, hidrogenosomi i mitosomi. Oksidacijsko-redukcijskim reakcijama u mitohondrijima se oslobađa energija iz organskih molekula, dobivenih probavom hrane i pohranjuje se u obliku molekule adenozintrifosfata (ATP). Najveća količina ATP-a nastane tijekom oksidacijske fosforilacije, mehanizmom kemiosmotičkog združivanja, u kojem je transport elektrona združen s protokom protona. Osim što sudjeluju u proizvodnji energije, mitohondriji su uključeni i u procese stanične signalizacije, stanične smrti, skladištenja kalcija i proizvodnje topline.
Abstract (english)
Mitochondria are organels of eucariotic cells in which process of cellular respiration release energy that is used for maintaining cell functions and life. According to the theory of endosymbiosis all mitochondria evolve from integration of an endosymbiotic αproteobacterium into a host cell of archeal origin. Within the eukaryotes, besides the usual aerobic mitochondria, other functional mitochondrial types such as anaerobic mitochondria, hydrogenosomes and mitosomes are present. Using oxidation-reduction reactions mitochondria release energy from organic molecules, obtained from food digestion. Energy is stored in form of adenosine triphosphate molecules (ATP). The highest amount of ATP is produced during oxidative phosphorylation, by the mechanism of the chemiosmotic theory, in which the transport of electrons is connected to the proton flow. Aside from energy production, mitochondria are also involved in processes of cell signalization, cell death, storing calcium and heat production.
