Abstract
Mikrobiom je termin koji označava sveukupni genom mikroba koji nastanjuju ljudski organizam. Sastav mikrobioma specifičan je za svakog pojedinca i pod utjecajem je egzogenih i endogenih faktora. Mikrobiota gastrointestinalnog sustava sudjeluje u različitim metaboličkim procesima, održavanju homeostaze, imunološkom sustavu i sveukupnom tjelesnom razvoju. Dosadašnjim istraživanjima uočena je povezanost mikrobiote i različitih kroničnih oboljenja poput ulcerativnog kolitisa i Crohnove bolesti te drugih stanja poput pretilosti, kardiovaskularnih oboljenja, dijabetesa, alergija i karcinoma. Poznavanje sastava mikrobioma važan je korak u razumijevanju uloge mikrobioma u stanjima zdravlja i bolesti. U ovom radu upoznat ćemo se s osnovnim značajkama crijevne mikrobiote, ulogom mikroba u metaboličkoj razgradnji hrane kao i s utjecajem prehrane na modulaciju crijevne mikrobiote.
Abstract (english)
Microbiome refers to the collection of genomes of microbes in a human body. The composition of microbiome is host specific and it is influenced by exogenous and endogenous factors. The important role of gastrointestinal microbiota is in human metabolism, homeostasis, immune response and correct body growth. Recent studies have associated gut microbiota with several chronic diseases, including ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, and obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, allergies and cancer. Knowledge of the microbial composition is an important step in understanding the role of microbes in health and disease. In this review, we discuss the basic characteristics of intestinal microbiota, microbial pathways associated with metabolism of food and the role of nutrition in the modulation of gut microbiota.
