Abstract
Streptokoki su gram-pozitivne kokoidne bakterije koje mogu biti organizirane u lancima različitih duljina ili kao diplokoki. Rod uključuje neke od najčešćih patogenih bakterija kod ljudi, poput S. pyogenes, S. pneumoniae i S. agalactiae. Klasifikacija roda je složena, a identifikacija vrsta temelji se na kolonijalnoj morfologiji, tipu hemolize, biokemijskim reakcijama te serološkoj specifičnosti. Ovaj završni rad predstavlja osvrt na dosadašnju filogenetsku strukturu roda Streptococcus, mikromorfologiju i kolonijalnu morfologiju, metabolizam i fiziologiju, strukturu genoma, patogenost te rezistenciju streptokoka na antibiotike.
Abstract (english)
Streptococci are gram-positive coccoid bacteria that can be organized in chains of different lengths or as diplococci. The genus includes some of the most common pathogenic bacteria in humans, such as S. pyogenes, S. pneumoniae and S. agalactiae. The classification of the genus is complex, and species identification is based on colonial morphology, type of hemolysis, biochemical reactions and serological specificity. This thesis presents a review of the current phylogenetic structure of the genus Streptococcus, micromorphology and colonial morphology, metabolism and physiology, genome structure, pathogenicity and resistance of streptococci to antibiotics.
