Abstract
Ovaj rad opisuje povijesni razvoj teorije atoma, prateći njezinu evoluciju od antičkih filozofskih koncepata do suvremenog modela. Počevši od grčkih filozofa poput Demokrita i Leukipa, koji su predložili postojanje nedjeljivih čestica (atoma) kao osnovnih gradivnih jedinica materije, rad se osvrće na odmak znanstvenika od atoma tokom Rimskog Carstva i ponovno oživljavanje atomskih ideja krajem srednjeg vijeka. Rad ističe bitne trenutke u razvoju atomizma, uključujući teoriju atoma Johna Daltona s početka 19. stoljeća, koja je pružila znanstvene temelje za koncept atoma, te otkrića subatomskih čestica krajem 19. i početkom 20. stoljeća od strane znanstvenika poput J.J. Thomsona, Ernesta Rutherforda i Nielsa Bohra. Cilj ovog rada je pokazati kako je teorija oblikovala naše razumijevanje tvari i svijeta oko nas.
Abstract (english)
This paper describes the historical development of atomic theory and traces its evolution from ancient philosophical concepts to the modern model. Starting with Greek philosophers such as Democritus and Leucippus, who proposed the existence of indivisible particles (atoms) as the fundamental building blocks of matter, it discusses the decline of atomic ideas during the Roman Empire and their resurgence in the late Middle Ages. It highlights key moments in the development of atomism, including John Dalton's atomic theory in the early 19th century, which provided a scientific basis for the concept of atoms, and the discovery of subatomic particles in the late 19th and early 20th centuries by scientists like J.J. Thomson, Ernest Rutherford, and Niels Bohr.The aim of this paper is to show how atomic theory has shaped our understanding of matter and the world around us.
