Abstract
Simbioza (grč. “συμβίωσις” - živjeti skupa, “σύν” - zajedno i “βίωσις” - život) je udruživanje dviju ili više različitih organizama. Definicija simbioze isključuje populacije, odnosno zajednice između jedinki iste vrste. Simbioza je imala ključnu ulogu u nastanku glavnih životnih oblika na Zemlji i stvaranju biološke raznolikosti. Udruživanje u kojem oba simbionta imaju koristi je mutualistička simbioza. Udruživanje u kojem jedan simbiont ima koristi, a drugi nema niti štete niti koristi je komenzalistička simbioza. Odnos u kojem simbiont prima hranjive tvari na račun organizma domaćina je parazitska simbioza.
Abstract (english)
Symbiosis (Greek: "συμβίωσις" - to live together, "σύν" - together and "βίωσις" - life) is the association of two or more different organisms. The definition of symbiosis excludes populations, or communities between individuals of the same species. Symbiosis played a key role in the origin of the main life forms on Earth and the creation of biological diversity. An association in which both symbionts benefit is a mutualistic symbiosis. An association in which one symbiont benefits and the other neither harms nor benefits is commensalistic symbiosis. A parasitic symbiosis is a relationship in which the symbiont receives nutrients at the expense of the host organism.
