Abstract
Coastal breezes are thermally induced winds that manifest under fair-weather synoptic conditions. They are studied for a variety of reasons, such as their impact on air quality and pollution in coastal regions, generation of wind energy and initiation of convection and severe weather. This research provides an analysis of the breezes in the Gulf of Cádiz (southwestern region of Iberian Peninsula, Spain). Firstly, an observational characterization of the breezes was done using data from two different stations positioned on land and sea. The differences between these measurements are highlighted. The observational analysis spans the period from August to October 2022, overall 75 days. The results show the prominance of this phenomenon in the area, leading to a comprehensive understanding of it. The Weather Research and Forecasting model (WRF) is used to simulate and further analyze a particular interesting period of coastal breeze events. The findings show that the numerical simulation depicts a highly accurate picture of the breezes. Certain flaws are identified and brought to attention.

Obalni vjetar je tip termalnog vjetra koji se javlja za vrijeme stabilnih sinoptičkih uvjeta. Obalni vjetar se istražuje zbog niza razloga, primjerice njegova utjecaja na kvalitetu zraka i zagađenje u obalnim regijama, zatim zbog procjene dostupne vjetrovne energije, te zbog njegova utjecaja na konvekciju i nevrijeme. Diplomsko istraživanje uključuje analizu obalnog vjetra u Kadiškom zaljevu (jugozapadno područje Pirenejskog poluotoka, Španjolska). Prvo je napravljena opažajna karakterizacija vjetra korištenjem podataka s dvije različite postaje postavljene nad kopnom i nad morem, gdje su istaknute razlike između ovih mjerenja. Analiza obuhvaća razdoblje od kolovoza do listopada 2022., ukupno 75 dana. Razultati pokazuju učestalost ovog fenomena na proučavanom području, što dovodi do njegove temeljite karakterizacije. Nadalje, korišten je Weather Research and Forecasting model (WRF) za simulaciju i daljnju analizu odabranog perioda puhanja obalnog vjetra. Numeričke simulacije uspješno reproduciraju vjetar. Nedostaci su identificirani i naglašeni.
