Abstract
Hitin je drugi najzastupljeniji biopolimer na planeti nakon celuloze. To je lančasta struktura načinjena od N-acetilglukozamidnih podjedinica spojenih β(1→4) glikozidnim vezama. U prirodi ga nalazimo u različitim kristalnim strukturama koje u kombinacijama s ostalim makromolekulama rezultiraju u brojnim makroskopskim svojstvima. Iz tog razloga hitin je rasprostranjen gotovo u svim oblicima života izuzev biljaka. O važnosti hitina i njegovom porijeklu govore nam i fosilni nalazi koji datiraju iz srednjeg kambrija prije 505 milijuna godina. Ovim radom nastojati ću sagledati i sažeti dostupno znanje o hitinu. Od njegove strukture, rasprostranjenosti, biosinteze pa do evolucije i primjene u svakodnevnom životu.
Abstract (english)
Chitin is the second most abundant biopolymer on the planet after cellulose. It represents a chain structure made up of N-acetylglucosamine monomers connected with β(1→4) glycoside linkages. In nature it occurs in different crystal structures which combine with other macromolecules and give rise to several macroscopic properties. Because of that chitin is distributed in almost all shapes of life except plants. About the importance and history of chitin we can look into the fossil record which dates back to the middle Cambrian, about 505 million years ago. With this work I want to revisit and summarize the available knowledge about chitin. From the structure, distribution, biosynthesis to evolution and applications in everyday life.
