Abstract
Intermittent fasting ili u hrvatskom jeziku povremeni/isprekidani post je termin kojim se opisuje režim hranjenja u kojem u toku jednog dana postoji period u kojem osoba ne konzumira hranu i period tijekom kojeg se normalno hrani. Tijekom povremenog posta naš metabolizam prestaje sa sintezom masti i kolesterola te skladištenjem masti, a započinje proces iskorištavanja masti u energetske svrhe tako što dolazi do oksidacije masnih kiselina i ketonskih tijela nastalih iz masti. Povremeni post pokazuje brojne pozitivne učinke na zdravlje. Glavni razlog učinkovitosti povremenog posta je postojanje perioda tijekom kojeg nema unosa hrane i radi toga tijelo iskorištava dostupne izvore energije na puno bolji način nego kada je prisutno energijsko obilje. Osobito je koristan za regulaciju prekomjerne tjelesne mase te smanjuje rizik za oboljenje od dijabetesa, raka, neuroloških bolesti i metaboličkog sindroma, te pomaže i pri liječenju navedenih bolesti. Kod provođenja povremenog posta potrebno je pratiti kako tijelo na njega reagira, te po potrebi prilagoditi režim prehrane.
Abstract (english)
Intermittent fasting is a term used to describe a dietary regime in which there is a period during the day when the person does not eat food and a period when the person eats normally. During intermittent fasting our metabolism stops synthesizing lipids and cholesterol and storing fat, and begins the process of using fat for energy by oxidizing fatty acids and ketone bodies formed from fat. Intermittent fasting shows a number of positive health effects. The main reason for the effectiveness of intermittent fasting is the presence of a period when there is no food intake and therefore the body uses the available energy sources in a much better way than when the energy is abundant. It is particularly useful for regulating obesity, reducing the risk of diabetes, cancer, neurological diseases and metabolic syndrome. It may also help in the treatment of these diseases. During intermittent fasting, it is necessary to observe how the body responds to it, and adjust the diet if needed.
