Abstract
Djelovanje vanjskog magnetskog polja na slobodne naboje paramagnetskih materijala, usmjerava njihove magnetske momente paralelno s tim magnetskim poljem. Ovaj rad koristi klasični i kvantnomehanički pristup paramagnetizmu vezanih elektrona, pokazujući da paramagnetska susceptibilnost materijala ovisi o temperaturi, skladno Curiejevom zakonu. Paramagnetizam slobodnih elektrona, tzv. Paulijev paramagnetizam, opisan je pomoću Fermijeve statistike za dva različita slučaja: na temperaturi apsolutne nule i pri niskim temperaturama. Osim susceptibilnošću, ovaj rad bavi se i teorijom kristalnih polja karakterističnom za paramagnetske ione, te pomoću nje opisuje gašenje orbitalnog kutnog momenta. Kao primjere uporabe magnetskih svojstava materijala navodi hlađenje adijabatskom demagnetizacijom i primjene magnetske rezonancije.
Abstract (english)
External magnetic field acts on the free charges of paramagnetic materials by aligning their magnetic moments with itself. This paper explores both classical and quantum mechanics’ approach to paramagnetism of bound electrons showing that paramagnetic susceptibility of materials is dependent on temperature, as per Curie's law. Paramagnetism of free electrons, so called Pauli paramagnetism, is described here by Fermi statistics for two cases: for the temperature of absolute zero and at low temperatures. This paper also deals with the crystal field theory for paramagnetic ions and uses it to describe quenching of orbital moment. Cooling by adiabatic demagnetisation and uses of magnetic resonance are mentioned as practical applications of magnetic properties of matter.
