Abstract
Bakterijska rezistencija na antibiotike predstavlja veliki ekonomski i javnozdravstveni problem na globalnoj razini. Neki sojevi bakterija već su razvili rezistenciju na sve antibiotike u upotrebi. Prema procjenama, 2050. godine će godišnje umirati 10 milijuna ljudi od posljedica infekcije rezistentnim mikroorganizmima. Vodeći razlozi rastuće stope rezistencije su i dalje prekomjerna i iracionalna upotreba antibiotika u medicini i stočarstvu. Globalizacija, urbanizacija, migracija i raseljavanje omogućuju širenje rezistentnih sojeva između zemalja i kontinenata, zbog čega oni postaju pandemijski. Globalni problem antibiotske rezistencije još je i veći uzmemo li u obzir značajno smanjena ulaganja farmaceutske industrije u istraživanje i proizvodnju antibiotika novog načina djelovanja, koji bi bili djelotvorni protiv već rezistentnih sojeva.
Abstract (english)
Bacterial resistance to antibiotics is a major economic and public health problem on a global scale. Some bacterial strains have already developed resistance to all antibiotics in use. It is estimated that by 2050, 10 million people will die annually from infections caused by antibiotic-resistant microorganisms. The leading reasons for the growing resistance rate still are the excessive and irrational use of antibiotics in medicine and animal husbandry. Globalization, urbanization, migration, and displacement allow the spread of resistant strains between countries and continents, making them pandemic. The global problem of antibiotic resistance is even greater if we consider the significantly reduced investment of the pharmaceutical industry in the research and production of new-acting antibiotics, which would be effective against already resistant strains.
