Abstract
Prehrana je temeljni dio čovjekova života, a začini su važan dio prehrane. Postoje različiti tipovi prehrane, ovisno o konzumaciji mesa ili izbjegavanju određenih namirnica. No svim tim oblicima prehrane zajedničko je korištenje začina. Bez njih bi hrana bila manje ukusna i privlačna. Začini igraju važnu ulogu od samih početaka čovjekovog postojanja, kao tvari koje oplemenjuju hranu, sredstva za konzerviranje, a novija ispitivanja pokazuju da gotovo svi začini imaju povoljna svojstva na ljudsko zdravlje. Danas se pri pripremi jela koristi velik broj začina. Proširili su se van područja njihovog podrijetla zahvaljujući međunarodnoj trgovini. Trgovanje začinima u prošlosti je bilo razlogom velikih putovanja i otkrića, Europljanima, novih nepoznatih zemalja.
Abstract (english)
Nutrition is a fundamental part of human life, and spices are an importantpart of nutrition. There are different types of diets, depending on the consumption of meat or the avoidance of certain foods. Nevertheless allthese forms of diets commonly use spices. Without them the food would beless tasty and unattractive. Spices have played an important role since the very beginning of human existence as food-enhancing substances, preservatives, and recent studies show that almost all spices havefavourable properties to human health. In today's kitchens, a large number of spices are being used. Thanks to international trade, spices have expanded beyond their borders of origin. In the past, the spice trade for Europeans was a cause of great travels and discoveries of new unknown countries.
